A new high school in the Glenorchy area will feature a world class performing arts centre and theatre, a new science and language centre, a library and information centre and a ‘creativity courtyard’ with design studios and robotics lab.
Premier and Minister for Education and Skills, David Bartlett, said tenders had been called for the construction of Montrose Bay High School.
“This is another part of our on-going determination to have Tasmanian students leading the nation in their performance by 2016.
“The school will be formed in 2010 with the progressive amalgamation of Claremont High and Rosetta High on the Rosetta High site.
“This fantastic redevelopment will provide students with state of the art facilities which complement their learning needs.
“The new school is part of the $52.3 million Glenorchy Schools Project,” Mr Bartlett said.
“Under the project, schools in the area have agreed to work more closely together and some have agreed to amalgamate or relocate to provide new and enhanced facilities and better subject choices.
Tenders for the Montrose Bay High project are advertised in The Mercury newspaper today and close at 2pm on Wednesday November 25.
“Construction is expected to start in December.
“The Glenorchy Schools Project is about every child in the northern suburbs having a better start and access to better schools,” Mr Bartlett said.
